Washers are thin plates, that are typically disk shaped that have a hole (generally in the middle) that are used to distribute the load of a threaded fastener, like a screw or nut. Washers are important for preventing galvanic corrosion, particularly by insulating steel screws from aluminum surfaces. W.M. Berg supplies many different types of washers.
Plain washers
The first style is the plain washer, which is also known as a flat washer. A plain washer is a flat ring that is used to spread the load of a screwed fastening. W.M. Berg’s plain washers are manufactured from 303 stainless steel or 18-8 stainless steel. The plain washers are available in a wide assortment of tap sizes and shaft sizes and can be customized to your individual needs.
Belleville washers
W.M. Berg’s second style of washer is a Belleville washer, also known as a cupped spring washer or a conical washer. The Belleville washer has a slight conical shape, which provides an axial force when the washer is deformed. W.M. Berg’s Belleville washers are manufactured from 302 stainless steel or 1095 carbon steel. The Belleville washers are available in many different shaft sizes and can also be customized for your needs.
Curved Washer
W.M. Berg’s third style of washer is a curved washer. A curved washer is curved in only one direction, so there are only four points of contact. Curved washers only exert light pressures. W.M. Berg’s curved washers are manufactured from 302 stainless steel or 1095 carbon steel and come in many different tap sizes and shaft sizes. W.M. Berg will customize curved washers for your individual application.
Split Lock Washer
The fourth style of W.M. Berg washer is a split lock washer. A split washer has a ring split at one point and bent into a helical shape. This causes the washer to exert extra spring force between the fastener’s head and the substrate. W.M. Berg manufactures split lock washers from 18-8 stainless steel and offers a variety of tap sizes and shaft sizes. We are happy to customize any washer to fit your individual application and requirements.
Precision Jig Buttons
Precision jig buttons from W.M. Berg are of the highest quality. Jigs differ from and work in conjunction with fixtures. Where as fixtures typically are used and designed for a particular operation, jigs not only hold and locate the part, but jigs also guide the cutting tools in drilling and boring applications. W.M. Berg manufactures precision jig buttons from 416 stainless steel hardened Rockwell C28-32. W.M. Berg will work with you to custom engineer precision jig buttons to fit your individual applications should you need alternate materials or sizes.
